Special Thanks & Looking Forward

Special Thanks to our 15U Warriors and Families for making this past year so enjoyable!  Even when we had players injured, they took the time to still make it to games and support their teammates! And while we didn't defeat Oak Lawn during playoffs, we ended the season with the possibility in our grasp! Great Game Warriors!

 

Looking forward...Tryouts for next years 16U Warrior Baseball Team will by Saturday, August 13 and Saturday, August 20.  Times for each tryout will be from 10:00am-12:00pm at C4.  Players need to attend only ONE tryout date.  Next year's team will be a Tournament Team.  We will play in 5-6 local tournaments beginning at the end of May.  Additionally I expect to play 10-12 exhibition games.  We will not play in the SWILA league.  I was not unhappy with the league this year and with a mostly 16U team next year's team would be very competitive I feel that the energy involved in tournament play would be more beneficial for the players.

As with this past season there will be batting cage and indoor practice time in the off season.  The frequency of these workouts will be similar to this past season with 1 session a week from December to March.  The cost will be around $800 per player.  I hope everyone considers trying out for next year's team.  We should be a competitive group.  I expect the level of tournament play to be similar to this years teams in the SWILA Select league.  Please let me know if your son is going to be trying out for next year's team and which tryout he will be attending.  If you have any questions please let me know.

Saturday's Playoff Game vs. Oak Lawn DELAYED Until 11:00am

Due to overnight rain and field conditions at Pacetti Field, today's SWILA Playoff game vs. Oak Lawn will begin at 11:00am.

WARRIORS MOVE ON IN SWILA PLAYOFFS!

Our Warriors had a fabulous game last night vs. Dolton, defeating the team 16-6 in the First Round of SWILA Playoff games.  We will face Oak Lawn Saturday, July 23rd at 9:00am at Pacetti Field (link for directions below).  Please have your players at the field by 8:00am.

Maxfield, Tannenbaum, Knight and Davis are DEACTIVATED for this game. If anyone else cannot be at the game on Saturday please let Coach know asap.

In addition, Coach is trying to get a field for a light practice on either Thurs or Friday of this week. I will keep everyone posted if this works out.

SWILA PLAYOFF SCHEDULE

The SWILA playoff brackets have been published and our first game will be Tuesday, July 19th at 8:00pm, Centennial 4 against the Dolton team.  The winner of that game will advance to play Oak Lawn on Saturday, July 23rd at 9:00am, Pacetti Field.

Coach will send out an email later today with game information for players.  We are the higher seeded team for the first game--so WHITE JERSEYS.   As always, please plan to have your player at the field one hour before game time.

Warrior 15U Season Winding Up Play

Our Warriors 15U Season is winding up its season of play!  Below is a quick look at our remaining games for this season:

The regular summer Swila season will end Sunday July17th. The season will be followed by a single elimination play off beginning Tuesday July 19th.
The Colt/Palomino League Championships will be at St. Xavier University on Saturday July 30th! Colt American League 10 AM, Colt National League 12:30 PM, Palomino American League 3 PM and Palomino National League at 5:30 PM! The winners will then go on to the Colt/Palomino World Series at Silver Cross Field.
The Swila play off Championship games will be at Silver Cross Field in Joliet on August 2nd & 3rd. Tuesday August 2nd at 5:30 will be Colt Select Division followed by the Collegiate Division at 8 PM! Wednesday August 3rd will be the Colt World Series at 5:30 followed by the Palomino World series at 8 PM!

We should know more information on seeding/placement for the single elimination games late this weekend and will forward that on to all players as soon as we do!  Please note that we will play the week of July 18th for the single elimination playoffs.

Saturday's Game @Eagle Ridge 2

Our next game is tomorrow, Saturday, July 9 vs Homer Colt Select. The game will be played at EAGLE RIDGE 2 and begins at 10:00am. Please have players at the field by 9:00am.  An OYA notification went out yesterday describing this game at Doogan. This is incorrect. Tomorrow's game is at EAGLE RIDGE 2.

 Davis, Lauciello, and Bresingham are DEACTIVATED for this game. Tim Prendergast will be the starting pitcher.

Warriors Week of June 5th

Our next game is Tuesday, June 7 at Humphrey 3 starting at 8:00pm vs. Frankfort Colt Select. Please have players at the field by 7:00. Davis, Lauciello, Bresingham and Marc are DEACTIVATED for this game. Tim Prendergast will be the starting pitcher.

 

Thursday, June 9th, our Warriors step up to the plate against the Mokena Colt Select team at 5:30pm at Schussler South Field.  Saturday, June 11th, we host the Oak Lawn Sharks at 10:00am, Doogan Field.  Coach will announce deactivated players*** and starting pitchers this week.  As usual, players should be at the field one hour prior to gametime for pregame stretching and warm ups.

 

***Tyler Knight will be DEACTIVATED for Saturday, June 11. If anyone else is unavailable this week please let Coach know immediately!

Warriors End Weekend on High Note!

Our Warriors ended the weekend with success, defeating the Palos Colt Select team 13-3 Sunday night.  The game had many great plays throughout, but the celebration of the night came in the 6th inning when Julian Guttierez hit a Grand Slam, bringing in Lance Cardinal, Robbie Maxfield, and Sam Marc and giving the Warriors a 12-6 lead.  The excitement caught this photographer off guard, leading the a less than perfect photo finish...but I'm still posting it nonetheless!

Saturday the Warriors defeated the Dolton Cylcones 12-3.  A Winning all around for our players!

Warriors Wrap Up Weekend Play Against the Palos Colt Select

Our Warriors will end their weekend of play at the Crestwood Baseball Complex against the Palos Colt Select team.  Game will begin at 7:30pm--please have players there by 6:30pm for pregame stretching and warm ups.  Davis, Lauciello, Tannebaum, and Timmons are deactivated. Novak is our starting pitcher for this game.

PLEASE NOTE...There is a typo in the address for the Baseball Complex--the fields are located on West Playfield Drive (not Ballfield Drive).  Below are directions and a map.

REVISED Spartan Blast Tourney Info...as of 9:00pm 5/29

The Tournament has been working hard to try and complete the tournament games as possible--but with literally our final day here, our Pool of teams will each only play two games before the semi finals.  Of course it is not an ideal situation, but what can you do when Mother Nature isn't as interested in baseball as we are!

Memorial Day Tournament Cancels Games for Sunday, May 29th

Due to weather conditions, all tournament games for the Spartan Blast Memorial Day tourney have been cancelled for Sunday, May 29th.  We will plan for our 9:00am game tomorrow, Monday, 5/30, until we hear otherwise.  Warrior families will receive a text message regarding any further changes, which will then be posted here.

Warriors Take on the Homer Heat Tuesday!

Our Warriors are taking on the Homer Heat in a scrimmage game Tuesday, May 17th, 8:00pm at Humphrey 3.  Please have all players at the field by 7:15 for pregame warm ups.  If anyone cannot make this scrimmage or will be late, please let Coach Dennis know immediately!

As Weather Improves, Practices are ON!

The weather is getting better!!  Next Practice...

• Thursday, May 5th, 6:00-7:30pm at Marley Creek Park which is located in the Preserves neighborhood (see link in park name).  This is a practice for all players.  Parking for this park is located off of Marley Creek Boulevard--however, you must head south on Marley Creek Boulevard all the way to the end (T-intersection at Marley Creek & Twin Lakes Drive), make a U-Turn at the T-intersection to then head north on Marley Creek Boulevard so you can enter the parking lot on the east side of Marley Creek Blvd.
• Friday, May 6th, 5:45-8:00pm at Centennial 4. This is a mandatory practice for pitchers and catchers, all other positions are invited to attend but not required to be there.
• Saturday, May 7th, 2:00-4:00pm at Schussler Park South.  This practice may turn into a scrimmage game, but we are awaiting confirmation that another team is available.

Depending on the weather...we aer scheduled for a scrimmage game tomorrow, Tuesday, April 19 at 5:30 @ C4. We will wear our RED jerseys. Please have all players at the game by 4:45.  The weather looks like an issue again so please call the Weather Hotline before the game 708-403-6290.

Saturday's Scrimmage v. Warriors 14U is CANCELLED!

Tomorrow's scrimmage game against the Warriors 14U game has been cancelled due to the expected rain and unplayable field conditions. This game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 27th--we will confirm the field soon.


At this point you should be receiving email and/or text notifications from OYA Athletics with changes to our schedule (and sometimes reminders also). Please note...if you did receive the notification regarding this game cancellation and the subsequent rescheduling of fields in Lemont--we believe this is an error and will let you know the field information soon.

If you have not received any email/text notifications from OYA, please let Coach Dennis know--this is part of the system when you registered with OYA and perhaps the system has an incorrect email address for you. Coach Dennis can help resolve this issue.

Saturday Scrimmage vs. 14U Warriors

This Saturday, April 16th, we have a scrimmage game scheduled against the Warriors 14U team at 2:00 at Schussler South. We will be the home team on Saturday and will wear our white jerseys. Please have all players at the field by 1:00. It is important for the team to have a repeatable warm-up before every game to prevent injury and to be sharp for the first inning. If a player is going to be late (after 1:00 for Saturday's game), please contact me. Playing time will be affected for players who are late if and you have not contacted me in advance. If anyone cannot make the game, also please contact me.


There is rain in the forecast for today and tomorrow so please call the weather hotline before the game 708-403-6290.

One last note is that we have added the final player to our roster. Julian Gutierrez has been added to our roster. Julian is currently playing on Sandburg's Freshman Baseball team and will join us late in May. Please welcome him and his family to our team.

Scrimmage Set for Tuesday's Practice Time

This Tuesday's practice will be a scrimmage game vs. the Magic 14U team--PLEASE WEAR WHITE JERSEY.  The coaches have been able to assess several things during a game and this will provide our players a better chance to continue to improve during game-time conditions.  Game is 8:00-10:00pm at Humphrey 3. 

Warriors Demonstrate Strength at Weekend Scrimmages!

Spring training is essential to shaking off the rust in baseball, but nothing beats actually playing a game on the field to see where everyone is sitting.  Our Warrior players demonstrated they are ready to play this past weekend, as they stepped up to the plate against the Magic 14U team. 

A 10-6 WIN Saturday helped build the confidence of the players; a tough loss Sunday kept them humble.  Overall the coaches were able to see the players at many different positions and work out some kinks that can only be smoothed on the field.

Outdoor Practices Begin!

Tuesday, April, 5 will be our first outdoor practice of the year. Practice is from 8:00-10:00 at Humphrey 3 (H3). At this point, the weather looks ok, but it will be cold after 8:00pm so please make sure your player dresses appropriately. At 7:30 prior to practice we will have a short parents meeting. Please bring the last payment of $250 for the season to the parent meeting if you haven't given me the payment already. Included at the end of this post is the team schedule for the next couple weeks. If you have any questions please let Coach Dennis know, and if a player cannot attend something please let him know in advance whenever possible.
The Weather Hotline number is 708-403-6290. At this time of the year you never know how the condition of the field is so please call the Weather Hotline before each practice/game.

All players that are playing on their high school team do not have to attend practices or games if there is a conflict with a high school event; however, if there is no conflict with the high school team, Coach would like these players to come to practice games to support their teammates and help with things on the bench. These players will not play in our games until their high school season is over but if you can get them to the field it would be good for them to support their Warrior teammates!

Finally we are confirmed for our first tournament of the year over Memorial Day Weekend (May 26-30). The tournament will be played at Oak Lawn HS. As we get closer to Memorial Day, the schedule information will be posted here.

Pitching Practice and Outdoor Workouts...

We have two hours on Friday, 3/25, and I have assigned times below. If you cannot make it please let me know. I think I have assigned everyone who is in town but if I missed anyone let me know.


Our first outdoor practice is Tuesday, April 5 from 8:00-10:00 at C3. Prior to the practice at 7:30 I would like to hold a meeting with everyone to update everyone on a couple topics.  Finally we have our first two scrimmages on Saturday April 9 and Sunday April 10. If you cannot attend either of the games please let me know.

March Workouts

March is here...warmer weather is on it's way...our Warriors are winding up indoor spring workouts to prepare for getting outdoors soon!!  Below are current workout dates. 

In addition, our team final payment is due at the end of March.

Sat, 3/5: 4:45-6:00pm Indoor Practice @ MegaPlex

Next Pitching Practice:  Thursday, February 25, 6:00-8:00 at On Deck - Pitchers/Catchers working with Coach Mike. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR PLAYER TIMES. NOT EVERYONE WILL BE WORKING WITH MIKE THIS MONTH.


* Saturday, March 5, 4:45pm-6:00pm at Megaplex - Indoor Practice for whole team.

I have received practice dates from the Village for our team. Our practices will begin in early/mid April. MOST of our practice times/home dates will be on Tuesday's and Saturdays. There will be some deviations from this but most of our home/practice dates will be on these days. Also keep in mind we will have scrimmages/league games where we will be Visitors on other days. Once I have confirmed a few things I will get all the home dates out to everyone.

In an effort to maximize the usefulness of our indoor space, Coach Mike will only be working with about half of our players this month (Thursday, Schedule is below). If you have any questions about this please let me know. These pitcher/catcher session are very important. Please try to attend if at all possible and let me know if you cannot attend.

One final note is that if you have a conflict for the dates I sent regarding our tournaments please let me know. I will be registering for these very soon. Also, if you have not given the second payment of $300 please give me a check on Sunday.

Coach will be sending out an email later this week with a Pitching practice schedule for the players. Anyone who already knows of potential conflicts during the two hour time slot, please contact Dennis immediately!

Warrior Shoe Fittings at Sports Station This Weekend!

SportsStation in Tinley Park will be holding "shoe fittings" for all Warriors' teams this weekend. Fittings are Friday 4-8 PM, Saturday & Sunday 10 AM-4 PM.  You are not required to purchase your player's spikes from SportsStation, but they provide our teams with a good price for cleats if your player is due for a new pair.
