Welcome to the 2011 Season!

It may only be September 2010, but our 15U Warrior Team is finalized and getting ready to begin preparations for the 2011 season!

This year we are proud to announce the addition of Pitching Coach Michael Heathcott to our team.  Coach Heathcott  is a retired Major League Baseball pitcher, with experience at both the White Sox & Cubs organizations.  Playing during one season at the major league level for the Chicago White Sox, Coach Heathcott is a Chicago-native who now resides in Scottsdale, Arizona.   He was drafted by the White Sox in the 13th round of the 1991 amateur draft. Coach Heathcott played his first professional season with their Class-A (Short Season) Utica Blue Sox in 1991, and his last with the Triple-A affiliates of the Chicago Cubs (Iowa Cubs) and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (Edmonton Trappers) in 2000.  Our Warriors 15U team is fortunate to have Coach Heathcott join our team!

A Parent/Player meeting will be scheduled within the next month to discuss the season and upcoming schedule for fall/winter training. Anyone with questions regarding the team can contact Coach Dennis Bresingham, 708-646-7697 or dbresingham@sbcglobal.net.

Warriors 15U Team Being Formed

If you didn't receive Dennis' email regarding the planned 15U Warrior team, please see below.  This site will become the site of the team, regularly updated with information you will need to know!

As some of you know, next year (2011) I will be managing the 15U Orland Park Warriors Baseball team.  This will be a Colt team and will likely play in SWILA Baseball League (http://swilabaseball.com/) which is made of of local Colt teams.  We will also pick up exhibition games and possibly a tournament or two.

The total number of games to be played can be estimated at 20-25 games (16-18 league games) depending if do any tournaments.  We will have megaplex and batting cage time over the winter but with some kind of lesser commitment than this past year.  Something in the order of 1 hour a week of EITHER megaplex practice or batting cages.  In the spring we would have a regular practice schedule.  I'm working on a budget but I expect the financial commitment will be something less than this past year.

This will be a competitive environment where I hope to build on Glenn and Tim's foundation and successes.  I am working on confirming tryout dates for this team but have requested fields  on Saturday, August 21 and Sunday, August 22.  Once I have these dates confirmed I will send another note to everyone.

I hope to see everybody out at tryouts and please contact me if you have any questions.

2010 14U Warrior Season Comes to an End...

Final Game of Season, Battle of the Warriors Game 3
It has been a wonderful season--the players have grown in so many ways (skill level & height) since last fall! We won some, we lost some...but I believe our boys gained much throughout the season.  I know it would have been great to have won more games along the way, but when we didn't win, we were often very close to it!  I think all the players deserve kudos for the time and effort they put into the season--after all, they've been practicing since last October--many of whom were also balancing school and other sports along the way!

As you look forward towards next year, many of our players will be heading to high school.  Congratulations to our Warrior freshmen and best of luck in your future endeavors!  Whether you decide to play high school baseball, continue with the OYA Colt league, or take your talents to a full-time travel team, I wish you the best and hope to have the opportunity to capture your athletic moments in photos in the future!  There is currently conversations about a 15U Warriors team...when we know more details about this possibility, I'll be sure to post something here for those of you interested.

As for our 13 year olds who will be looking for a 14U option, I encourage you to consider trying out for the 2011 14U Warrior team!  Tryouts will be held August 7th & 8th at 2:00pm on Centennial 5--players should plan on attending BOTH tryout dates.  In addition, players interested in trying out need to register with OYA at the link below:
http://www.oyaboys.org/Registration/Default.asp?snid=473721060&org=oyaboys.org
For more information on this team, visit the OYA website, www.oyaboys.org.

Thanks for creating amazing moments for me to capture in pictures!

Our Warriors Are Back!

Players celebrate with Matt LeVigne after his homerun--joining the ranks of Julian Gutierez and Tyler Dempsey who also earned homeruns during the game!

It was the "Battle of the Warriors" and our Warriors definitely battled to get back! After falling in the first game by 1 run, our Warriors defeated the other Warrior team 8-6 in game 2.  Three homeruns contributed to the big win, including Julian Gutierez' second homerun of the season, Tyler Dempsey's first home run immediately following Gutierez', and then Matt LeVigne's first HR of the season!  There were several other great hits by our Warriors...their bats were on fire today!  Pitching was strong also, holding the other Warrior team in both games.
In between games all players and families enjoyed a great picnic lunch in the shade--special thanks to all parents who contributed to this event!  Clearly...our players benefited from the good food and relaxation between games!  Wednesday we begin our final tournament of the season...the Palos Rumble!  Let's hope our players bring their same level of play Wednesday night!
Teammates congratulate Julian Gutierez after his second homerun of the season!

Warriors congratulate Tyler Dempsey after his first homerun of the season!
Warriors celebrate the excitement of the 3rd HR of the game!

Battle of the Warriors this Weekend!

Warriors' batter Matt Gurgone on 3rd base shares a moment with Lance Cardinal (Nagel's Warriors 3rd baseman) at the April 13th scrimmage game between the 2 teams.

This weekend will be the first "Battle of the Warriors" game series, where our Warriors team will play the best of 3 games against Coach Nagel's Warriors team.  The battle begins Saturday, July 10th with our first game at 10:00am at Humphrey 2. Immediately following the first game will be a Warriors BBQ--families of our two teams are asked to bring a dish to share (please email Ann Bresingham, bres381@comcast.net, what item your family can bring). Our BBQ will take place on the hill by the parking lot--there is plenty of shade, but no picnic tables. Please bring chairs or a blanket to sit on!  The second game will begin about 1:15pm at Humphrey 2.

Westside Tourney Road Bumps

Our Warriors battled hard but fell to the other Westside Warriors team on Saturday afternoon.  After delayed morning games due to poor field conditions, the 12:00 game began about 2:00.  The second Westside team demonstrated their skilled defensive play, and even the strongest of hits were handled by the opponents.  Sunday morning's game against the Southside Hitmen (Not Express as previously listed by the tournament) started out decently, but lightening and rain delayed our game after 4 innings.
Our Warriors play Monday, June 28th at 5:00pm to complete the game against the Hitmen.  We have many players who will be at football camp just before the game--but please try to have your player at the fields by 4:45pm.  We left off at the fourth inning, 3-0 against us.  Our Warriors like to come out from behind...so let's hope we finish this game with our heads held high!

Success but No Wild Card for Warriors

Although our Warriors had a rough Game 1 of the Memorial Weekend Metro Tourney, the players pulled together to earn two wins to complete the tournament.

In Game 1 against Grant Park, our Warriors experienced tough officiating and numerous players hit by pitches. Between these two challenges, and our own errors in the field, we fell to Grant Park 16-2. Game 2 of the double-header that day gave our Warriors a chance to redeem themselves and demonstrate their hitting and fielding strength. In a race against the clock, the Warriors defeated Limestone 8-6, earning their first WIN for the tournament. Game 3 against New Lenox continued the success as our players dominated the ball field in every position. Our team defeated New Lenox 7-2, for our second WIN of the tourney. With a record of 2-1, we were knocked out of the "Wild Card" race due to our tough run differential from Game One.

While we didn't come away from this first tournament with a championship trophy, our Warriors grew stronger each game and showed they came to play!
Way to go Warriors!
The Questionable Call at Third...looks like he should be OUT!

Julian Guttierez started Game 1 for the Warriors

Memorial Weekend Tournament this Weekend!

Warriors...our first tournament of the season is this weekend!  Saturday our games are back-to-back, so in addition to planning on a light snack & plenty of fluids for our players, we'd like to gather as a team afterwards for lunch!  We are currently considering a few options for quick places to meet after our game--Mindy's is located on 191st & LaGrange Road (actually on 191st just west of LaGrange Road, north side of 191st.).  If you aren't familiar with Mindy's, they offer burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, etc...as well as ice cream! Ordering is pretty quick, so even if families just came for a short time & ice cream, it would be great to gather as a team afterwards!  If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know (Ann, bres381@comcast.net).

Location of Frankfort Square Games
Frankfort Square - Union Creek Park - located behind Walker Middle school @ 80th ave. and Mary Drew Lane - Take Harlem south to 191st street and turn right (west) onto 191st. Turn left on 80th ave. Go another 1.5 miles south on 80th Avenue. Turn west on Mary Drew Lane. (there is a Frankfort Square Park District Building on the corner of 80th aven and Mary Drew Lane). Pony Field is just east of the school. All other fields are behind the school. FOR THOSE COMING FROM LAGRANGE ROAD... take LaGrange Road to 191st St. and turn left onto 191st; take 191st Street to 80th Ave, turn right and head south.  Then follow the directions above on 80th Ave.

Everyone should have received the spreadsheet with the game schedules. We are Orland Park 585 and we play at Frankfort Square at the following times:

  • Sat May 29th 9:00:00 AM (we are home vs Grant Park)
  • Sat May 29th 11:15:00 AM (we are the visitors vs Limestone)
  • Sun May 30th 11:15:00 AM (we are home vs New Lenox)
All players should be at the games 1 hour prior to our start time for pregame warmups.

This weekend our Warriors will travel to Frankfort Square for a double-header Saturday in the MetroLeague Memorial Weekend Tourney.  As our two games on Saturday appear to be back-to-back, please plan to pack a light lunch/snack for the game.  The players will not have much time to eat, but may need something--and too much food will clearly slow them down for their second game.  In addition, if the weather continues on this great route, please plan for plenty of liquids for your player (and yourself!) that day.  There may not be any concessions to rely on.  This post will be updated with further info on the Frankfort Square location later this week.

This Week: Warriors take on Midway at Home

Wednesday, April 21st, our Warriors will step up to the plate against Midway.  The game will be played at Humphrey 2 (H2) at 5:30pm.  Players should arrive at the field by 4:45pm.

Please note, our games on Thursday and Friday this week have been CANCELLED.  Coach Tim will notify everyone when these games are rescheduled and we will post the revised schedule here.

Warriors Fall to Palos by One in MetroLeague Opener

From the Desk of Coach Tim~
Although we lost 12-11 against Palos, we staged a great comback. At then end of 4 1/2 innings we were down 8-3 and in the bottom of the 7th we were down 12-7. In both innings we staged great comebacks pulling with in 1 each time. The players should be commended for hanging in there and fighting back. Errors were at a minimum but they are still the biggest reason for losing games. Each error gives the other team another out and that means they get more opportunities to hit and score. I think the players are improving each time on the field and I am starting to peg them for specific positions. This will allow them to concentrate on those positions and get use to what is expected from them.

Some outstanding plays of the game:
Matt LeVigne's running catch in center field, great way he reacted to the ball.

The put out at home by Dennis on the toss from the catcher.

Hitting was outstanding:
    Pat O'Connor - 2 clutch hits

  • Triples by AJ, Pat, Matt L, Shawn
  • Doubles by Davis
We had a total of 10 hits, all after the 3rd inning.

This Weekend's Games~April 17th and 18th

This weekend our Warriors head to the plate in a scrimmage on Saturday and our first Chicago MetroLeague game on Sunday.  Saturday, April 17th, our Warriors will once again scrimmage against Coach Glenn's 14U Warriors team--2:00pm at Centennial 4.

Sunday, April 18th our Warriors will open the Chicago MetroLeague season against Palos at 1:00pm, Centennial 4.  Players should arrive by noon for pregame warmups.  In addition, please remember Coach Tim's uniform/clothing rule as the weather this weekend is expected to be a bit cooler than the past week.

Warriors' Uniform Rule:  All players must bring their long sleeve shirt (red) and team hoody (black) to each game. Their equipment bags have side pockets that will hold these items nicely and keep them from getting dirty.  The players should only wear their team clothing. If it is cold out, have them wear their long sleeve red practice jersey under the black short sleeve jersey. If it is a little cold for just the short sleeve jersey and they don't want to wear a long sleeve underneath it, they can wear their short sleeve red practice jersey under their black game jersey. If it is extremely cold, then of course they should bring along a warm jacket. The jackets come in hand if they are sitting on the bench for awhile.  ~Coach Tim
